The Midwest is making waves on the world stage this summer as two of our own—Ty Kosek from Buffalo, Minnesota, and Jaret Zoellner from Jacksonville, Illinois—gear up to represent Team USA at the 2025 IWWF Under 21 World Waterski Championships in Calgary, Canada.
With grit, heart, and serious talent, Ty and Jaret are bringing Midwest pride to the international scene, and we couldn’t be more proud! Both athletes are standout members of the powerhouse collegiate ski team at the University of Louisiana – Monroe, where they train and compete alongside some of the best collegiate skiers in the world.
Ty Kosek: All In, All Events, All Heart
At just 19 years old, Ty Kosek is a true triple-threat—competing in Slalom, Trick, and Jump—and he’s no stranger to the world stage. Having grown up with skis on his feet and his dad as his lifelong coach, Ty’s been chasing buoys, flips, and flight since the age of two. This summer, he’s chasing something even bigger: a world title, not just for himself, but for Team USA.
“It’s an honor to ski for something more than just myself. That’s what makes this so special—I’m skiing for my country and my team.” – Ty
Ty’s laser-focused training mindset, even after bouncing back from an injury earlier this season, shows exactly why he earned his spot on the U.S. team. Every set is intentional. Every goal is clear. And every ski day is a step closer to the dream.
Ty credits his dad as the backbone of his journey, but he’s also fueled by his competitors—those who push him, inspire him, and share in the thrill of the sport.
What’s he looking forward to most?
“Seeing friends from around the world, competing with them, and just making this one of the best tournaments ever.”
Let’s not forget the essentials: his headphones (for focus), a post-ski steak (fuel), and a mindset rooted in past successes and pure passion for the sport.
Jaret Zoellner: High Flyer with High Hopes
Joining Ty in Calgary is Jaret Zoellner, a wildcard team selection who’s ready to launch in the Jump event. Jaret, 21, comes from a family of skiers and has been on the water since he was ten. This year, he’s turned up the heat—training harder, hitting the gym more, and spending time on the water with teammates like Ty at the University of Louisiana – Monroe.
“I’ve skied more this year than I ever have before, and I’ve felt more locked in than any season yet,” Jaret shared. “Being able to train with Ty and push each other has really helped me level up.”
Representing the U.S. on the world stage is more than just a milestone—it’s the realization of a long-held dream. And for Jaret, who only recently chose to focus on skiing over racing dirt bikes, it’s a decision that’s paying off in full throttle.
“It’s an incredible feeling to wear the red, white, and blue. I’m going in with confidence, hoping to jump big, and just soak in the whole experience.”
Jaret is especially looking forward to bonding with teammates and connecting with athletes from around the world.
“These international events are awesome because of the skiing, of course—but also because of the people. I’m excited to build friendships and rep the Midwest while doing what I love.”
With a solid support crew behind him—his parents, Ty, and even ski legend Freddy Krueger—Jaret is stepping into Calgary ready to trust himself, stay grounded with music, and give it everything he’s got.
Bringing It Home
The 2025 U21 World Championships are more than just another tournament—they’re a celebration of years of hard work, sacrifice, and dreams come true. For Ty and Jaret, it’s a chance to fly the flag, connect with a global waterski family, and chase greatness—together.
Join us in cheering on our Midwest heroes as they represent the USA and the Midwest with pride, passion, and plenty of adrenaline.
